HIGHLIGHTS

Class LL Boys: Danbury boys dominated with 94 pts, followed by New Milford’s 145. Defending champ Fairfield Prep was just 8th. It was Danbury’s first win since their run of three straight ended in 2008. Staples sr Henry Wynne (3rd in 2011) won individually by 12 seconds in 15:49, the only sub-16 of the day. He was followed by Ridgefield jr Trevor Hopper (16:01) and 2011 runnerup and Newtown sr Jake Feinstein (16:06), the 2nd and 3rd overall fastest of the day.

Class LL Girls: Norwich Free Acad. sr Brianna Lenehan clocked 18:51 to win over Staples frosh Hannah Debalsi 19:17 and record the only sub-19 of the meet. Lenehan was 2nd last year. Ridgefield edged Glastonbury, 55-62, to defend their team title with the rest of the field far behind.

Class L: Wilton soph Spencer Brown, an impressive 9th as a frosh, won in 16:46. Darien nipped E.O. Smith to defend its boys team title, 87-89, with Fairfield Warde third with 93. For the girls, Fairfield Warde jr Cate Allen triumphed in 19:36. Wilton defended its team title with 83 to Darien’s 92.

Class MM: Joel Barlow sr Logan Fulton ran 16:25 to win individually for the boys, while it was Guilford nipping New Fairfield, 96-98, for the team crown. New Fairfield soph Gabrielle Richichi won the girls race in 19:34, while Avon dominated the team standings with 64.

Class M: Lewis Mills won both individual titles as sr Kevin Sullivan won by 18 seconds in 16:24 for the boys, and Stephanie Deccy’s 19:28 prevailed for the girls. Weston’s depth took the boys team battle with 68 points, and Tolland had a 3-4-5 finish en route to a repeat for the girls win with 70.

Class SS: Plainfield jr Kerri Ruffo (19:40) and Nonnewaug sr Jonah Riolo (16:55) were individual champs, while it was Haddam-Killingworth boys (59 pts) and Griswold girls (90 pts) for the team championships.

Class S: Thomaston went 1-2 for the girls with sr Cameron Chaplen (19:29) and jr Sabrina Olsen (19:32). Immaculate followed with 3-4 and had by far the best 4-5 runners later as they won their 3rd straight with 34 pts. Similarly, Capital Prep’s boys saw juniors Dhahran Velvaquez (16:29) and Devin Nelson (16:53) in the top two spots, but they, too, were beaten – though by just a point by Bolton, 71-72. Bolton has four wins in five years.
